Here is a useful link about the new skill "Invention"

Basically it will allow a series of upgrades to weapons and tools. and to gain parts for these, you will have to "disassemble" weapons to get parts to add perks for them. so if I want a chance at getting parts to upgrade my seismics to lv.95 weapons, I will need to destroy a wand to get parts and hope they are the parts I want for my wand. It will be a huge money-sink for players who can afford it but will take a lot of resources out of the game and keeping the prices of weapons high and in demand. (just my personal observation)

Invention should be a good money sink. I think that is another important reason why they are doing it.

it will change poly staking if you can attach stuff to the poly staff and still look like a polystaff which could change the face of poly staking =/

Yeah, it will change poly staking because people will be able to augment items such as the poly staff, with various perks.

hopefully there is way to regulate it via duelling options like "no augmented weapons" icon that can select it so only basic poly staves
